I know I knew this once, (or at least had a conclusion that sufficed my small mind), but what is the balance between forgive and forget…
Maybe the better question for me is…I can forgive an action, but how do you forgive a character flaw? How can you forgive/forget a persistent wronging, if you do not desire for that wronging to hurt you or your loved one?
I’ve heard it argued that true forgiveness is forgetting. I’m not sure I agree with that.
I don’t know. I think part of the Divine being Divine is that he removes our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. So when He sees us, He may be the only Being to ever be able to see beyond our sin.
Divine Forgiveness then would have to be defined as the miracle of being able to forgive AND forget.
Yet, I too am faced with the harsh reality that my sin caused Jesus’ death. And my salvation is dependent upon NOT forgetting that. And Jesus’ sacrifice/offering will never be forgotten. He will be the only one with scars in Heaven.
