Here is a letter that Tall Skinny Kiwi, aka Andrew Jones, wrote to Don Carson concerning his stingy critiques of the ‘emergent church.’ It’s a great letter, but it raises something that I fear is only going to get worse as the gap between “emergent” and “traditional” widens.
(btw - here are my random thoughts about the emergent church…so far. As usual - I reserve the right to be wrong.)
It seems that some of us ‘professionals’ have quit doing our theology in community with open accountability with each other. I wonder if we have equated disagreement with anethma. And for some reason it appears that anethma’s only cure is withdrawal. The problem with that is Jesus seemed to do the opposite AND true GC2 work demands the opposite.
I desire to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with my God - even with those who don’t exactly think like I do.

What’s up man? Hope things are well. Here’s my two cents. I’ll start here because getting into the fray on the skinny sometimes isn’t worth it from past experiences. The missles that were “fired” into the mix from DA could possibly be a defense from missles that have for that last several years been “fired” at the traditional church in an unhealthy way. So, as the EC grows into a tradition it is having to defend itself from some heavy weights. And that’s not a bad thing.

Hmm…that’s an interesting piece of the puzzle. The EC didn’t start well…that’s for sure.
We skewered more than a few potential friends, but I do think ‘we’ are rebounding.
