We did the family trip to Carver Elementary School this morning to watch a 1st grade awards show. I was pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting every kid getting an award - which did happen - and nothing truly exceptional or worthy was recognized - which didn’t.

Cooper? He got straight A’s (no surprise), a reader’s award for reading 316 books this year, good citzenship and some other good behavior award - how the heck is he my kid?

Don’t be too impressed. One Chinese girl read 1500 books. What the heck is that? Did her parents lock her up in a closet and said - “you don’t come out until you’ve read 40 books this week!” Ridiculous. And of course 20 years from now, Cooper will probably be working FOR her.

Back to Cooper, though - the funniest thing was this. They give out a Young Astronaunt Award…yep, Cooper got it. Followed by a Rising Star Music Award…yep, Coop got that one to.

Now only God would put those two talents/gifts side by side - Astronaunt and Music. So when he goes to Mars, he will write his own theme song, I guess.
