Stu @ Fantastic 4

Wednesday night is Stu @ The Movies night for our youth group.

We’ll see a movie, then unpack what we saw afterwards. What was good? What were springboards for spiritual discussions? What can we celebrate? What do we need to critique?

And we are going to see Fantastic 4.

It’s rated PG-13 and here is Screen-It.com’s review. Click on it. It’s funny. The biggest complaint about the movie is the low cut outfits on Jessica Alba. Also notice in the middle of the page - an ad for Jockey bras. That’s right - click on the add for your free low cut bra. Quite humorous or offensive depending on your mood, I guess.

But here is what I am struggling with…it’s an average movie. It’s not a bad movie, it’s just not a great movie either.

I’d rather go see Batman Begins (for the 4th time.) While it is a much better movie with lot’s more issues to unpack - it is darker, more violent, and is way more intense…’scarier.’ Probably a harder sell to young middle school parents.

So what is the call? I guess I’m selling out to some extent and taking the easier road. Go see Fantastic 4 because it’s got a broader appeal. And it does have some potential for good discussion.
