I hate hospitals. Hate ‘em. Had a mentor/pastor used to say that hospitals were where Christ does His best work.
I hate to disagree with a mentor…but it’s also the site of some of the most intense pain. It’s in the hospital that the 15 second sound-bite theology that says “God is in control” or “It will all work out” is exposed for what they really are…trite.
In Emporia, the hospital was the site of my best friend’s wife delivering a still-born child. I was allowed back with the family - he was a pastor of another church in town. I just lost it. Cooper was just a few months old, this was their first child…I was just worthless.
Today I get to go to Baptist with some more friends as they try to find out if their baby is going to make it. Little One didn’t have kidneys or maturing lungs at the last sonagram. Today is the follow test to make sure.
I just feel completely worthless and useless in these situations.
I want to see a miracle today.
I want to see God show off.
I want to see speechless doctors.

I can somewhat relate to you Grant( only a small part though). Today at school in one of my classes we were doing prayer request, and I said I would pray. there was so much sickness and so much hurt, I almost broke down in the middle of it.

I’ve tried 3 times to post a comment to this G and haven’t been able to. Ever since we found out about this situation I’ve been brought to tears everytime I think about it — don’t know how i held it together today. I’m with you, I want to see a real God story here.
The 15 second sound-bit theology doesn’t work, it doesn’t help — we need each other to weep together, to rejoice together, to be genuine in our love for one another and constant in prayer.

I’m with you bro! I mean how do you tell a family who just lost their second son, that “it’s going to be OK” and “I understand” cause I don’t. I understand the importance of a “well timed word” but I am not sure timing has a place in this discussion.
