No Metric Zone

Here’s the deal Jeremy - we like Canada. We really do. See here for confirmation.

It’s just that the rest of world is just wrong using metric instead of inches, feet, pounds, and miles.

And that’s all I got to say about that.

Actually, the metric system just makes more sense. Everything is based on factors of 10…so, there are 10 centimeters in a decimeter, 10 decimeters in a meter or 100 centimeters in a meter. 1000 meters in a kilometer and so forth…makes much more sense than saying there are 5,280 feet in a mile or 36 inches in a yard. I mean come on - how random is that :-) Plus, the majority of electrical engineering calcs are done in the SI system.

You know I’ve spent good time in Canada. I’m reminded of a great line from a comedian I saw. She said that Canada is kinda like your attic: you forget it’s up there but once you go you find out there’s a lot of neat stuff up there!

Though the metric system was tough getting used to, base 10 does make more sense. But I still estimate in yards…and isn’t their football field measured in yards?

Sorry bro, but I have to disagree with you on this one. After living overseas for 2 1/2 years, the metric system is a ton better. Mostly because it is the standard in the rest of the world (not just Canada). I can’t imagine if all the countries over here were on different measurement systems. You would have to recalculate your speed every time you crossed a border.

I scored low on the nerd test too, but I agree with Wayne this time.

[OOh. Now that I'm on Blogger's comments page I see Grant's blue picture. Looks like you're holding your breath, man!]

    On to the subject.

Speaking with an English accent: +10 perceived IQ points.

Speaking with a southern drawl: -10 points perceived IQ. (but +10 perceived friendly points)

Claiming the English measurement system has any intrinsic value: -100 perceived IQ points.

    :)
