Tonight are the opening ceremonies from Torino of the Winter Olympics. I love the Winter Olympics. All the fam is addicted to TV for two weeks watching sports we only care about every 3 years and 50 weeks.
But this is atrocious. Team USA is wearing a BERET in the opening ceremonies?? Forget blood doping, buying off figure skating judges, or security. This is a major slap in the face of Americans everywhere. A FRENCH BERET????? I’m astounded, appalled, and need a valium.
Somebody explain to me what the French have contributed to society in the last 300 years that is worth writing about? Statute of Liberty…
Okay - name another? I wouldn’t want to wear that ridiculous headpiece. And while you’ve got all the French ‘athletes’ over there - tell them the next world war they find themselves in, they’re on their own.
In fact, when we win it - we’re giving them back to the Germans this time.
Cowboy hats - via the 1980 olympics - are acceptable. Baseball caps, those crazy ‘jester’ looking hats on ski slopes all over America I’d be okay with. I’d even settle for a beanie.
But a freakin’ beret???? I’m going to be sick.
Viva le’ toilet.

as “official” critic of the nfl uniforms i think it would be great for you to detail out who has the best and worst olympic uniforms.

Being that the games are in Italy, the least they could have done was have Italian hats - http://www.millerhats.com/borsalino_hats/borsalino2.htm
At least those look fairly cool, and wouldn’t be a slap in the face

Being that we are America, the melting pot, each U.S. athlete should have been allowed to wear what they wanted, sort of making a conglomeration of ethnicity and such. Same colors, same general uniform, but a touch of their own culture added to each one. That’s diversity at its finest!

According to this http://www.galactic-guide.com/articles/8R54.html … beret comes from the latin word for “cap.” So, maybe the awesome hats(which made them look like a cool American nike commercial) were meant to be a tribute to the Roman Empire! Grant, you are so interested in fashion! I didn’t know we shared so many common interests!

Bar - love your idea. Keep the uniform the same but let them pick out their hat style.
Val - I have a passion for uniforms…not necessarily fashion.
Paul - I also like your idea of some part of the uniform is a tribute to the host nation. How about a checkered apron for Italy?

So, what you are saying is that you have a thing for guys in uniform? I’m sorry, couldn’t resist

They wore berets in the 2002 games in Salt Lake. I waited in line on the street in 18 degree weather for 3 hours to buy my pastor one of those things. They were nicer looking than this year’s, though.
