John 1-2

When John was looking for a way to translate the story of Jesus to the Greek culture, he started with philosophy. The Word. The idea of a god becoming flesh to visit the earth was not exactly a new concept for Greeks. The idea of this god being the ‘logos’ was.

The we get another metaphor for Jesus - the Passover Lamb. One that speaks to Jewish culture all the way back to Genesis 3. The upcoming chapters will be signs and wonders that speak directly to the Greek god structure as well as the Jewish religious structure. Double meanings will abound and I think we’ll see why John will be a huge help to us who speak to a post-christian culture about Jesus.
