You might need a bottle of rum to make it through this flick.
In parts - it was hilarious.
In parts - it was scary.
In parts - it was boring and disconnected.
About halfway through the movie - when the one-liners were great…”Look! An undead monkey!” and “Elizabeth Swan! Hide the rum” - I thought to myself…
This is funny but moving slow. In fact, it’s almost like it’s a prequel…setting us up for another movie after it.
I hate it when I’m right.
It’s a fun movie - don’t get me wrong. But’s it’s not up to the standard of the first one. In 1, Depp had Geoffrey Rush to play against. Rush’s performance in 1 almost stole the show from Depp - which made Pirates 1 one delicious movie to watch.
In Pirates 2 - it’s all Depp, all the time. If Depp’s not in the scene, you can feel the energy just sapping away. Even the drop-dead gorgeous Keira Knightly falls flat in her scenes.
Effects were great. One-liners and inside jokes abound.
But….when it’s all said and done, you’ll feel somewhat cheated - but interested enough to see the 3rd one next summer.
If you liked 1 and you enjoy Depp - go catch a matinee. Otherwise - rent it on DVD.

i actually liked it, although it was a little tough to follow in some parts. it does get you excited for the next one and has the perfect ending. and it has keira knightly in it. thats enough reason to see it.

When did pirates start wearing mascara?
Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

I couldn’t agree more. Wish I’d seen Superman instead. or even Cars.

I actually rather enjoyed it. Granted, it’s not as good as the first movie, but hey, middle movies usually aren’t as good. They don’t really have a beginning or an end. Of course, one reason it wasn’t so good for me is that the theater was 45 minutes late starting the movie.

Every adult review of this movie says about the same thing…some good parts, but not so great.
But every teenage girl’s opinion…”fantastic!”
I don’t go to many movies. Think I will skip this one. Over the Hedge…thats my kinda movie!
Linda
PS Am I the only person that reads/comments that doesn’t know you in person?

Hmmm… Over the Hedge promoting illegal immigration… Comic book heroes (Superman) seemingly depicted as the Son of God. What next?
