Decompressing Colorado

August 15th, 2006 · 8 Comments · 25 views

We’re finally back from a crazy time in Colorado. I have so many phone calls and emails to write - it’s overwhelming. It’s a good problem to have! And we do feel loved (or we just enjoy hanging out with nosey, obsessive compulsive people. It’s a toss up.)

After spending most of this day on the phone or responding to emails, I’ve made the selfish decision to write about it instead.

This post is the backstory but this weekend at Pinecrest was clear. In spite of completely fumbling through my sermon, it went well.

And about that - it’s not that the sermon was bad…I just never felt like I hit 5th gear. If you are a speaker, you know what I’m talking about. It didn’t suck but it wasn’t awesome either. Just never got in the groove - and that could be for a lot of reasons that I’m too tired to care about now.

They want us. We want them. It’s a place where only about 10% of the population is churched and the main religion is Denver Bronco worship. I should fit in great.

Here’s the official invitation…

Believing that you are called to ministry, and that your life, conduct and ministry competencies line up as well with our church, you are officially invited to join the Pinecrest Ministry Team as our full time Associate Pastor of Student Ministries, effective October 1, 2006. This is a unanimous decision of the Student Ministry Pastor Search Team.

Grant, we want you to know that we will be praying for you and Amy – your children – and your coming relocation to Colorado. We are trusting God for the resources both in people and material to help you as your minister among our youth, and the youth of our community. We realize that the best ministry is a team ministry, and we want to be counted as a part of the ‘team’ that will pray for you, encourage you, support you and provide guidance to you in the days ahead.

The Student Ministry Pastor Search Team –
[names have been withheld to protect the guilty]

There you are…a more eloquent and thought provoking post will happen tomorrow but for tonight…cell phone is off and we’re going to celebrate. By playing cards until 10 then watching more episodes of 24.

remember that time in brazil when we were talking about kayla leaving and i asked you if that meant you would be doing adult ministry and you answered with a resounding NO!? haha. well glad to see you have gone back to the youth and i know youll fit in great out there. a heathen reaching the heathens is not always a bad thing.

and if your ever in fayetteville, make sure you stop by. farewell and good luck grantney.

Congratulations, my friend! I know you will be a blessing, and Lord willing, be blessed in your new ministry position.
Even though it sounds cheesy, I am proud of you. And happy for you and Amy.
We will be praying for the transition.

Congrats Grant! I look forward meeting your family when you get here and get settled. I will give our Student Director your info if that’s ok. He’s been around student ministry in Colorado for a while and has some interesting philosophy. Bronco love is wierd but very fun!
