Monday Night Football

August 29th, 2006 · 8 Comments · 76 views

Coop and I watched the first half of the Cincinnatti vs. Green Bay preseason game last night. Here were my thoughts in no particular order.

1. Carson Palmer is back. He may be better (smarter) than last year.

2. No matter how you slice, the Bengals have the worst uniforms in the league. I was trying to think of a better alternative for them but the glare off their uniform is such a major distraction.

3. Green Bay looks like an average college football team.

4. Favre needed to retire. He just looks tired.

5. Tony Kornheiser on PTI - very good. Tony Kornheiser on MNF - very bad.

6. Joe Theismann on anything - very bad.

7. Joe Torrico on College Football - good. Torrico on MNF - very bad.

8. MNF is just going to suck eggs this season. The booth is terrible. Theismann is way over the top, annoying, and takes his opinion way to seriously. I feel like he is trying to sell me a Kirby vaccuum. It’s painful to watch the game.

9. Boomer Esaison is calling the game on radio. So - do you want to be shot in the head and die quickly or in the lungs and suffocate?

10. Green Bay will be the worse team in the league this year. Worse than the Texans - they have a coach that knows what he is doing.

11. A. J. Hawk looks completely lost on the field. Not like a top 10 pick.

12. Palmer appears to have that “special” relationship between a player and a city. Favre has it in Wisconsin. Elway had (still has) it in Denver. Bush will have it in New Orleans.

13. I can’t get over how bad Green Bay is. What kind of crack was Favre smoking when he said that this was the most talented team he’s been on?

14. The MNF crew is terrible. Theismann is waxing eloquently on how Palmer needs to play to get in “game shape.” Torrico is still calling the game like anybody is listening to him. Sideline reports from the Wonder twins are ridiculous. Kornheiser sounds intimidated and hesitant to say ANYTHING and he might be the only guy that can save that ship from sinking.

15. Halftime…ahhhhhhh. This will be the only thing worth watching on MNF - the halftime show. Is there anyone better than Berman and Tom Jackson? There isn’t. Irvin is tolerable only because of those two’s greatness. Young is good, Jaws is great, Mort is good.

I don’t care how bad the Packers are. I still gotta love ‘em. They may be an emarrassment, but they are the cheesiest :) Its all about supporting the home town guys in Wisconsin. Win or lose.

I get to take my hunny to our first ever Packer game in Dec. I haven’t dedide on the cheese crown, the cheese hard hat, or cheese bra.

I now must find the cheese bra…enquiring minds want to know…

It was sad seeing the Great Brett Favre play like that. Maybe he’ll be better in the regular season.

First of all, I think its actually Mike Terrico though I could be wrong. Good call on Theissman, though. Dude gets old after the 1st quarter.

Cincy’s uniforms are only slightly better than Denver’s. But I’m sure you’ll disagree.

And yes, MNF will stink this season. But having said all that, I’m still stoked that ITS FINALLY FOOTBALL SEASON!! WHOOHOO!

MNF hit the bottom when Dennis Miller was invited to the booth. He was the iceberg for that ship.

i can’t believe you would trash on the pack so hard. even at there worst they are still the packers and therefore deserve respect. they are what the nfl should be about.

i agree with dennis miller being when mnf hit bottom.

sorry grant, you’re wrong about bush and new orleans. new orleans only has loyalty to manning and even that’s inspite of the ownership - the town loves him. bush will never get the chance for new orleans to be his city - ownership will will make cheap/bad decisions and he’ll leave the first chance he gets.

No disrespect intended toward the Pack. Love their fans and tradition…but you obviously haven’t seen them play this preseason!! hahahahahaa….

I think compared to the current guys - Dennis Miller would be an improvement.

And - bush ain’t getting out of there for at least 5 years. And if the ownership of the Saints let him leave town - that would be a franchise killing decision.

Hey Grant, just to prove your point about Elway STILL owning the city of Denver: yesterday on the 12:00 noon news on KOA radio (the biggest station in Colorado), one of their news items was that John Elway’s son, Jack, was starting as quarterback that night for the varsity team at Cherry Creek High School. Oh, and last night, the TV news had clips from the game (he doesn’t quite throw like his Dad, yet :) )

…BTW: Cutler looked pretty good in pre-season!

    Welcome to Broncoland!
