Teacher accused of Sexual Misconduct

November 14th, 2006 · 7 Comments · 13 views

My eyes caught the headline on Rocky Mountain News as I was zinging off to the sports page.

Then I saw her picture. Go ahead and go look…I’ll wait. Here it is plus the full story.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Yeah…a 17 year-old boy and a blonde 29 year-old teacher (whose husband is the principal).

I remember being 17. I remember having a crush on Mrs. Chase - my trig teacher. Blonde, drove a Toyota MR2. (Why were those cars so popular in the ’80’s? One good wind and it was off to Kansas with it.) I remember alot about 17 - much of it I have tried to forget but I don’t remember being a “man” of much restraint.

Which leads me to this question…am I the only thinking there MIGHT be a difference in “sexual misconduct” with a 12 or 14 year-old than say…oh, a 17-year old that is about to graduate from high school? I’m not excusing the behavior of the teacher…I just doubt the 17 year-old is completely innocent.

That story is bogus when it reports that he was “confused”. Idiot reporter, naive police department. Takes two to tango.

She is an adult, and legally the 17 year old isn’t. Consent (legally), doesn’t matter. Line has to be drawn somewhere.

Also, as a teacher she is in an authority position. I am not feeling sorry for her.

Rob - no, I already have a crush on Teri Hatcher going back to the Lois and Clark days and I don’t need anymore help!! :)

Brit - he might have been…i’m just saying I don’t think I would’ve been confused.

Linda - agreed on all points. Just thinking out loud…

Lines do have to be drawn - how about the closer (in age) the line is approached, the lesser the penalty? 12 years for an offense on a 14 year old and 12 years for a 17 year old are not exactly equal doses of “justice”. I’m not justifiying - but murder has degrees - I think the same concept should apply here. As far as the 17 year old goes, I do think expulsion is in order.

I’ve been in youth ministry for almost 15 years now, and in my time I’ve known a lot of 17 year old boys. (That means I was 20 when I started, for all you Bama fans out there.)
I’ve never met a single one that is completely innocent…of anything. If a good lookin’ girl is involved, the percentage of innocence drops considerably (if it doesn’t bottom out altogether).
    Just an observation.
