I’m setting up our next series at Refuel and this was the question Wednesday night.
The responses were interesting in that I’m not sure that much has changed over the last 50 years as to what “cool” is. Plus, students and adults like were rattling off answers as to what defined “cool.”
The answers slowed down a bit when I asked what is godly and what does a godly teen look like?
What does a godly adult look like? Even more crickets.
We then tackled the questions from an adult perspective. Guess what? Most of us adults are still pursuing coolness more than we are godliness and it gets fleshed out with what we own and the accomplishments of our kids.
So we start this journey in the next few weeks - what is godliness and is it even important and if so why.
Anyone want to throw out their observations so far?

I bet if you asked the question “What does godlessness look like” you’d get alot of response. We are wired, in this day and age, to know what NOT to do instead of what TO do. Even more interesting would be asking adults what godly kids look like, then ask the kids what godly parents look like.

godliness is a word that has taken some negative flack from some recent theological thought. the idea of being devout or reiligious can be painted in a bad light. afterall, Jesus even rebukes some of these types of people in Scripture, aka the pharisees.
but nonetheless, we as Christians are suppose to have this characteristic. i like this question. it’s hard to give an answer.
but i suppose a godly person would be someone who can accept the idea of grace and then truely act in accordence with this grace by the power of the Holy Spirit. someone who is religious or spiritual, but is sincere and then acts on the grace from Christ. ehh, that’s my beginning shot. hard to put into words.
