Schotten-heimered!

Cleveland should have started one but didn’t.

Kansas City should have started one but they didn’t either.

Now San Diego - here is your chance.

Start the Schottenheimer Annoymous Club. You’ve joined a long line of cites whose hopes are killed mercilessly with the first game of the playoffs. I knew I should have picked the Patriots. In fact, as I re-read my post…I was picking the Pats but got sucked into the vortex.

I said “Never underestimate the ability of a Schottenheimer team to completely choke in the clutch. See Browns of ‘87, ‘88, Chiefs of every year he coached there.”

Did I listen to myself? No. Did Cleveland fans listen? Did KC fans listen? Of course not.

Why? Because hope springs eternal and Marty is an outstanding salesman.

Can someone explain how you keep the ball from your two best players in the second half of the most important game of the year? Somehow the coaches of San Diego did something that no opposing defense could do all season - stop LT and Gates in the second half.

Other than that game - and I KNEW I should have picked the Patsies - I had a great weekend on my picks.

Random thoughts for next week…

Is there an offense more fun to watch than the Saints?
Is there an offense more on the verge of complete destruction than the Bears?
I think for Overtime games from now on, they should do punt returns until one team breaks one for a touchdown. Hester would be MVP of the league then.
When does Marty get fired? Today or next week?
Somebody stupid will critique LT and his statements after the game…and that somebody will be wrong and stupid. (I already said that, didn’t I?)
Thanks to CBS for carrying the Super Bowl. The only thing worse listening to FOX commentators is listening to CBS.
I have 4 more weeks of sanity, then life is over. What will I do then?
The Patriots are the exact opposite of the New York Giants - they shut up and play, exceed expectations, listen to their coach, don’t throw each other under the bus.

Later…

[...] Now that Charger-Gate is over, let’s talk football. Patriots bring their swagger and Tom Brady into the RCA Dome. But the truth of the matter is that their two playoff opponents didn’t exactly show up to play. The J E T S Jets, Jets, Jets are a great team to root for but they were severely outgunned and outmanned for that matchup. The Chargers Schottenheimered. [...]
