Is it just me or were those Don Cheadle commercials for the Super Bowl the best ever? “How big is the Super Bowl? It made Roman numerals cool.”
Alas - the game. By the way - if you want an inside look at both of these coaches - go here. Beyond the Ultimate has done a piece on them.
For the game itself…I just want it to be fun to watch. I still don’t trust Rex - even if it is the “Year of the Gator.” As far as the addage - “Defense wins Championships.” That doesn’t count in the modern era of Super Bowls. Offense wins Super Bowls.
Can you stick that pig in the endzone early and often? The only team to buck that system in the last 15 years were the Ravens of 2001. That’s it. Even the vaunted ‘85 Bears averaged something like 30 points a game. (Somebody want to google that for me?)
But therein lies the rub of this game - neither one of these teams have exactly exploded offensively in the playoffs. The Colts flexed some of their muscle in their comeback against New England. (Which by the way - I hate the Patriots but can you name me a single team over the last 8 years who has won more consistently? Me neither.)
Oh you’ve got the splendid special teams of the Bears, Mr. Clutch in Adam V., and Urlacher and Manning kissing each other as the next “Jesus in Cleats” but the only thing that matters in a Super Bowl is which team can keep their cool enough to put monster points on the board.
Of the two quarterbacks, who keeps their head better? Who has consistently put points on the board? Who rarely self-destructs? Who comes from a family of keeping their cool?
That’s right - Brian Griese. But he’s not playing. So we’ll have to pick between Manning and Grossman.
So I’ll take Manning and the neutered horses.

game was a little disappointing, but the commercials were very disappointing.

Game was way above average as Superbowls go - commercials were the worst in modern history. Halftime show had at least a single live vocal and guitar playing over a recording
