Parker Area Youth Ministers Meeting

We’ve got to come up with a much shorter title but it’s descriptive. This is a fairly new “community” of youth leaders and I’m hosting the next one at Pinecrest.

The normal format at these meetings are the host feeds you, the host gives you the tour of their facilities, the host tells you how they do ministry there. Useful information to be sure but I want more than that.

So I’m not doing any of that. Instead, I emailed the “leader” and said - I want to talk about these questions next week. Two of them I stole from Marko’s blog. (Is it stealing if you give credit???)

Here they are - feel free to throw your own answers in the mix or post on your own site - just give me a trackback or link here for it.

1.What are two common mistakes most pastors make when starting a student ministry that you would make sure not to make?

2.What methods/steps would you use to lay a strong foundation that would last beyond your time there?

3.How do you care for your soul?

4.What is one thing that you need prayer on (personally) that nobody else knows about or is praying for you about?

It’s not stealing in the first place - it’s “borrowing.” Thought I would help you clear that up. :)

well, the first one, and i dont know if it was even a mistake, but a certain pastor i know ran off half of a certain youth group on his first night as a leader. haha.

that did set a foundation, though, but made a lot of people angry, probably not the best thing a new pastor to do.

but bringing life groups and student leader methods to that certain youth group has left an impression on me, and many other people who were a part or are still a part of that youth group. so i guess thanks and keep on truckin.

Let’s just say that on that first night we were having some intense communicating.

As in - the days where the inmates ran the asylum were over.

And their be one hero here - Jesus. Not seniors because they drove cool cars.

Praise God we turned that corner and I’m so stinking proud of you.

By the way - the English family is praying for your surgery.

wow was that really the first night haha. it was probably one of the best mistakes (but i wouldn’t consider it a mistake) that could have happened for me.
