Go home, grab the kids and catch the matinee. It’s that good.
And you figure that the odds are stacking up against Pixar. I mean, at some point they have to release a dud. Animated films are always a mixed bag and studios have struggled for years to maintain any kind of success with them. Even Disney in recent years has struggled to maintain any kind of consistency. That’s what drove them to partner with Pixar.
But looking down the list - Ratatouille, Cars, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 2 - one thing stands out. Story drives everything. So you figured a movie about robots, where there is not one stitch of dialog for the first 40 minutes, where the potential for over the top “Save the Planet, Humans are horrible” storyline to triumph (See Happy Feet) over common sense - this would be the movie that would end the run.
It didn’t. In fact….It may be the best movie they’ve made yet. (Although…how can you argue with The Incredibles?)
It’s funny. It’s poignant. It’s moving. It’s loaded with GREAT THEOLOGY.
From Eve to the uniqueness of the Earth - lots of great thoughts and ideas in the film. I want an Eve. First, she looks like something straight from Apple. Second, she packs heat. She even has a touch-screen. But I digress.
The interplay between Wall-E and Eve is perfect. They are different, very different yet they need each other. One is incomplete with out the other. One can’t accomplish their mission without the other. Each has unique gifts and talents that the other needs.
Humanity is seen as for what we are - sometimes we are awesome, sometimes were are terrible. More often than not we get distracted by technology from important issues but that’s not the technologies fault - it’s ours. So the great enemy isn’t us or technology, it’s our complacency (laziness) about technology. In the end, we see that all is redeemable.
I love how the “green” message is preached. It’s dead accurate. We have a responsibility to the earth. It’s a unique space and needs care. We can do that and use technology to that end. It’s not the enemy of being green.

Honestly this is the first positive review I have heard from a “real” (read: not a paid critic) person. Everyone else has said it is boring, lacks dialogue, and that the environmental message is rather preaching. Nice to hear a different view, but the jury is still out on whether we’ll pay the big bucks or wait for the DVD.

I hated Happy Feet. I thought Happy Feet was just one big, radical, wingnut vent on the environment. It was like listening to a 5 year old argue its point because he heard someone else said…blah, blah.
This was the exact OPPOSITE of that. The movie is ultimately about how broken relationships can be healed but it takes effort, work…it’s a choice to make it work.
The earth - it needs a little help and that’s PART of the reason we (humans) exist. The other part is for meaningful relationship with someone else.
Plus - it’s funny.
