Lots Ahead…Starting Over

First off, I’m back in the USA. I have lots of stories to tell and you’ll be getting multiple posts over the next few days about it all.

However, in the rush to keep you informed I used a cybercafe in Porec. Normally this is not a big deal. People do it all the time. It appears however I did not practice “safe posting.” Some of you noticed a long line of links in your rss feeds, others of you clicked on the site only to go to some place selling cheap drugs.

What Happened?

I’m not really sure I have the technical language for it. Basically my website was ‘kidnapped.’ They did this through my WordPress software AND the theme I was using.

I won’t bore you with the details but I did find the solution – upgrade WordPress to the latest version and changed my theme.

The bad news with the fix? I get to start over on my website once again. So those of you who still look at this website using the browser – welcome to the new look. I’ll be rearranging some furniture over the next few days to get it looking exactly like I want.

Lesson learned for me – who hates to update and upgrade software. DO IT!!!

Welcome back to the G sides.

So is this the new look? Upgrading wasn’t really that hard was it?

Upgrading took two minutes. Fixing all the problems that the upgrade caused – an eternity.

I honestly hate the backside of this update of WP. Too many bugs and incompatibility with some of my favorite plugins.

I had to go into Mysqyl and rename all of my categories and tags. All of my old tags are gone. It’s been a friggin’ nightmare.

The plugin thing is a nightmare…still can’t get my polls to work right. Which version did you upgrade to (2.51)?

Curious about the categroies and tags…all of mine came across just fine. Wonder if that was a holdover from the hijacking??

    I jumped to 2.6.

I’ve never had these issues with WP before. Pretty frustrated.

your intelligence aside, Clay – no, the links are gone as are a number of other little things that I finally had nailed down.

Like – the “on this day” calendar and top posts by comments and views.

I’m trying to get it all redone but it’s taking forever.

    Right now… I hate WordPress.

Man, that sucks! This probably goes without saying, but be sure you switch up your login in as I’m sure they hijacked your password on the open WiFi.

    Good luck.

Why does the father of a “no dog” family have a dog’s butt on the top of his blog? Just wondering….
